I was introduced to clay during high school pottery class and I would arrange to go into the studio early in the morning before school started, just so I could get my hands dirty - I was smitten. Nearly 20 years later I got back into it and I am obsessed with challenging myself with hand-building, sculpture or throwing on the wheel.
I use stoneware clay - sometimes a dark clay body and sometimes a light one. I may even use porcelain on occasion! I fire some of my pieces in a gas kiln and some in an electric kiln, each creates a very different effect. I like to make functional wares, but sometimes you just have to make something frivolous!
I like mud of all kinds and so I enjoy gardening and watching my garden bloom. I draw much inspiration from nature. I also love being able to incorporate sentiment into pottery for a lasting memory. I have been known to impress Granny's old doily into clay and make a tray or bowl to be used often with fond memories of Granny.
